General ReGeneral Re is a reinsurance company. It is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Corporation. Business General Re is one of the world's largest reinsurers. It specializes in cases which cannot be realistically insured by other reinsurers of lesser capacity. As a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, it is controlled by legendary investor Warren Buffett, who nonetheless leaves all day-to-day management to the company's professional staff. In good years, it is a large source of cash flow to Berkshire Hathaway and has provided much of the cash that is then used by the company to acquire additional subsidiaries.
