General National Vocational Qualification

A General National Vocational Qualification, or GNVQ, is a certificate of vocational education in the United Kingdom. These qualifications are related to occupational areas in general, rather than any specific job. GNVQs are available to people of all ages, and have no entry qualifications. Many schools and colleges offer these courses and they can be studied alongside GCSEs or A levels. There are different levels of GNVQ, namely intermediate levels (equivalent to 4 qualifications at GCSE standard) and advanced level (equivalent to 2 A-levels). These qualifications can be taken in a wide range of subjects. In 2007 GNVQs will not be available, instead replaced with another such qualification (eg. BTEC).
