Gedde Watanabe

Gedde Watanabe (born June 26, 1955 in Ogden, Utah) is the stage name of Gary Watanabe, a Japanese American actor. He appeared on Broadway in 1976 in Pacific Overtures, and has appeared in many films. Some of his roles are as relatively generic, in which the inability to speak English without Asian accent is used as a comedic ploy. This stereotyping has led to criticism. The name "Gedde" appears to be a transcription of the name Gary to Japanese and back into Roman letters. He has also provided the voice for various Japanese characters on TV's The Simpsons
