GanpatipuleGanpatipul is a famous beach in the district of Ratnagiri on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. The town is very popular with tourists from the metropolis of Bombay arriving here every weekend. A Hindu temple on the sea shore also attracts thousands of devotees. According to local folklore, the Hindu god Ganapati, taking umbrage by a remark made by a native lady, moved to Pul (a few km ahead of the town) from his original abode of Gul. Thus the region was christened Ganpatipul. The seashore is lined with a number of low budget cottages and frequented by many as a cheap getaway. Maharashtrian pickles, sea food and mangoes are some of the gustatory delicacies in the town. The town is easily accessible from the port city of Ratnagiri, which also has a railway station and an airport. The town of Chiplun is also to the north. To reach the town by road, one has to turn off NH-17 at Sangameshwar.
