Gaelic League

The Gaelic League (Conradh na Gaeilge) is an organization "for the purpose of keeping the Irish language spoken in Ireland." It was founded in Dublin on July 31, 1893 by Douglas Hyde along with Eugene O'Growney, Eoin MacNeill, and others. It developed from the earlier Gaelic Union. The leagues newspaper was An Claidheamh Soluis ("The Sword of Light"), its most noted editor was Patrick Pearse.
