Gabbeh

Gabbeh is a traditional design of Persian carpet. Gabbeh is a smaller-size hand-knotted carpet crafted almost exclusively by wives from shepherd tribes in Iranian, Turkestan and Afghan country regions. This kind of carpet is much thicker than other Persian carpets, sometimes as much as one inch in volume. Its pattern is of a very basic kind with only a limited number of decorative, mostly rectangular objects resembling mainly animals. Carpets are usually in bright light colours like yellow and red. Due to its relative ease of production (less precise pattern, small number of knots per sq cm) a Gabbeh carpet is going to be the cheapest compared with any other similar age and size Persian carpet.
