G.i. Joe (Game Mod)

G.I. Joe was the name of a mod of the computer game Battlefield 1942 (2002). The game featured the characters of the G.I. Joe TV series and toys brought into the game. In early 2004 the mod was attacked by Hasbro for copyright issues regarding material on the mod's website and game files, terminating development of the game. No other G.I. Joe themed online computer games of this nature have been made or announced, making the released G.I. mod files the only way to play a 3-D muliplayer game in the G.I. Joe universe. Prior to being attacked the mod team had released a G.I. Joe - Minimod 0.2 and Alpha 1.1 release. The minimod was a more stable release and but only part of the total game content created to date. The alpha was much more unstable, but featured more of the content completed to up to the point of its release. Hasbro was unresponsive after its threat, and the mods future is uncertain. The minimod and alpha would remain the only G.I. Joe themed releases. A redone, renamed game featuring similar but re-themed could be released in the future if the mod team continues.
