Futurama (Game)

Futurama is a 3D platform game based on the science fiction cartoon series Futurama. Versions are available for the PS2 and Xbox. The team from Planet Express (playable: Fry, Bender, Leela, and Dr Zoidberg) must defeat Mom's evil plan to take over the universe. Each character has different abilities, and each level is designed for one character only. Most levels include a combination of fighting, jumping, and some puzzle-solving. For example, Fry is the only character to use weapons, from a hammer to a rail gun, and his levels are set in New New York. Bender's attacks include a spinning punch and a jumping 'butt slam', while Leila has various kung-fu style moves. Dr Zoidberg's level is different. He is mounted on an alien quadruped following a perilous jungle trail and his only controls are left, right, and jump. Fry also has an "on rails" shooting level where he is mounted in a giant mechanical chickenwalker. A major part of the appeal lies in the humor of the game. The cut scenes are full of jokes, and the characters and enemies make various quips during play. Futurama scriptwriter and producer J. Stewart Burns helped write the plot, and Futurama voice actors provide the voices. Veteran games may be able to spot references to their favorite games. For example, some of Fry's adventures bear a striking resemblance to parts of Max Payne.
