Freeway (Canada)A freeway is a multi-lane highway or road designed for high-speed travel. Most freeways in Canada have grade separation with limited freeway entrances and exits, high speed limits (usually 100 km/h, or 70-90 km/h in urban areas), and separations between the lanes travelling in opposing directions. In Canada, there does not appear to be a national standard for nomenclature, although freeway appears to be winning out except in Ontario where expressway or highway is used, and in Quebec where they are called autoroutes (borrowing the term from French).
