Free China

• The Republic of China, as opposed to "Red China" or "Communist China" for the People's Republic of China. The term is meant to connote that the ROC is "free" and "democratic" while the PRC is oppressive. It was in common use during the Cold War. See also: Free China Journal
• The Free China Movement, a coalition of about 30 pro-democracy and human rights organizations promoting a "free China" (as part of the Chinese democracy movement). In this context, "Free China" means to liberate China from the rule of the Communist Party of China. See http://www.freechina.net
