Franz Meyen

Franz Julius Ferdinand Meyen (June 28, 1804 - September 2, 1840) was a German physician and botanist. Meyen was born in Tilsit. In 1830 he wrote Phytotomie, the first review of plant anatomy. Between 1830 and 1832 he took part in an expedition to South America on board the Prinzess Luise, visiting Peru and Bolivia . The standard botanical author abbreviation Meyen is applied to species he described.
