Francois De Vendme

The Duke of Beaufort, grandson of Henry IV by his mistress Gabriele d'Estrees. Imprisoned in 1643, he escaped on Whit Sunday, 1648. He fought in the Fronde against the King's forces and later rejoined the royal side. He went missing, and is presumed dead, during the seige of Candia. He is a prominent character in Alexander Dumas's book Twenty Years After.
