Forchbahn

The Forchbahn (German for "Forch Train") is a train, also a tram in Zrich, linking central Zrich (Zrich Stadelhofen) to the eastern suburbs near Esslingen, passing via Forch. The train is often abbreviated to just FB, which also appears on the logos of the train. The Forchbahn is a narrow gauge railway (Schmalspurbahn). In 1912, service began on November 27 with the trip taking 67 minutes. (By 2002, this was down to just 36 minutes, partly due to new rolling stock and advanced technology.) In 1973 (lasting through 1976) a tunnel was built at Zumikon, to cut noise pollution to the town. In 1976, the regular 15-minute train frequency was introduced. This is now standard throughout the daytime. It is now part of the Zrich ZVV transportation network and runs as the S18 line. Projected extensions to Zrich Main Station and Wetzikon were under consideration as early as 1979. However, they still remain to be reality even today.
