FnacFNAC (originally Fdration Nationale d'Achats pour Cadres, or National Purchasing Federation for Employees) is the largest French retailer of cultural and consumer electronics products: books, CDs and DVDs, computer software and hardware, television sets, cameras, etc. They propose a wide selection, and notably offer higher-end models systematically. They are also present in Belgium, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan. FNAC stores are usually pretty large and can be compared to the old Incredible Universe or current Fry's chains in the USA. They are however always very carefully and tastefully organized and furnished; they avoid the "industrial manufacturing plant" appearance common to supermarkets. FNAC used to be cheap place to buy at. Today they are among the most expensive ones. To compensate, new cultural releases are usually sold at 20% discount (prix verts or green prices), which allows them to compete with supermarkets. After a certain period, prices go up again, although not necessarily forever. Green prices are displayed using visible labels attached on product front side, while standard prices hide themselves on hard-to-read labels on the back. Soldes are always discreet and there are never any bargain bins. External links
