Flummery Digest

The Flummery Digest was a World Wide Web-based news digest published monthly by Mike Sierra on the subject of political correctness. While Flummery Digest had many the characteristics of a Weblog (it was updated with fresh news items several times a month) it actually predates the blog technology by several years. Sierra used his knowledge of Emacs and Perl to accomplish the same effect. Sierra has ceased publication of Flummery Digest to spend more time with his family, leaving the task to publications such as Tongue Tied.

Quotes

  • "Often, talk of 'saving the schools' needs to be distinguished from 'improving education,' as opposed to 'protecting dysfunctional institutions from competitive alternatives through monopoly status.' "
  • "The very definition of political correctness, in which any possibility of fun is vetoed, and the level of public discourse is determined by only the most brittle and unreasoning sensibilities."
  • "Government is commonly thought of as a neutral and benign force, and that only actors in the private sector are motivated by greed or power lust."
  • "Political correctness allows for two basic types of complaint: that people who behave the same are treated differently, or that people who behave differently are treated the same."
