Fluminense Federal University

The Fluminense Federal University (Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF) is one of the three federally-funded public universities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has six campuses in the city of Niteri, on the North-East side of Guanabara Bay, and another 12 satellite campuses in various towns of the state. The university was established on December 18, 1960. It has about 21,600 undergraduate and 2700 graduate students, and about 2100 faculty (2002). The word Fluminense in Portuguese means pertaining to the state of Rio de Janeiro; it comes from Latin flumen ("river").
