Flirting Scholar

Flirting Scholar (original title Tang Bohu dian Qiuxiang) (1993) was a comedy played by Stephen Chow as Tong Bak Fu or Tong Buo Fu in Mandarin. Chow's character is actually based off a famous historical personage by the same name. The events in this movie are based off the story penned by Tong Bak Fu with a bit of artistic license. A lonely, educated, young poet and painter that secretly knows martial arts, Tong Bak Fu went out to seek happiness. He stumbled upon Wah Fu (House of the Wah Family), where a beautiful young maid, Chow Heung (Gong Li), worked. In his attempt to get to know her, Tong Bak Fu disguised himself as a poor man and got himself recruited as a lowly servant in Wah Fu. As it turns out, the Wah family was an enemy of the Tong family, but they both have one same enemy: the evil scholar, a skilled martial artist who wields a sword. Tong had a hard time being a servant until his education became known, and was appointed the tutor of two idiots. Out of the blue, the evil scholar attacks the Wah family, and Tong reveals his martial arts to save them. Madam Wah (Pei Pei Cheng)found out he was part of the Tong family and poisoned him. In the end, Tong found his antidote and kills the evil scholar and marries Chow Heung.
