Flinders University

Flinders University is located in Adelaide, South Australia and was established in 1966. Flinders occupies an attractive elevated site south of the CBD, with views over the Adelaide Plains and towards the coast. A medium-sized institution, the main campus is located alongside Flinders Medical Centre that houses the medical school. The other two universities in South Australia are the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. The university maintains a number of external teaching facilities in regional South Australia, south-west Victoria and the Northern Territory. International students make up 10% of the on-campus student population and a number of offshore programs are also offered, primarily in the Asia-Pacific region. Flinders University offers more than 160 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as higher degree research supervision across all disciplines. Many courses use new information and communication technologies to supplement face-to-face teaching and provide flexible options. As a relatively young institution, Flinders has quickly established its reputation as a prestigious modern university, devoted to innovation. It claims to offer a progressive, vibrant and stimulating environment in which to work or study and has a long-held reputation as the "students' university". For example, students can object to a subject's assessment procedure if they feel it is unreasonable, and their input will be considered. It has a high research profile and consistently ranks among Australia's top universities on a per capita basis for research spending and for the citation of work in professional journals. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration between disciplines. The establishment of the Centre for Neuroscience has helped to increase the prestige of Flinders as an institution as well as provide a unified body for neuroscientific research. The Flinders University School of International Studies and Politics is also a nationally respected faculty. The University is set to become the South Australian partner of the Australia New Zealand School of Government. Flinders University is a member of Innovative Research Universities Australia (IRU Australia).
