Fishhook, AlaskaFishhook is a census-designated place located in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP is 2,030. Geography Fishhook is located at 61°40'38" North, 149°15'54" West (61.677320, -149.265043). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 229.0 km² (88.4 mi²). 228.3 km² (88.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,030 people, 663 households, and 509 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 8.9/km² (23.0/mi²). There are 730 housing units at an average density of 3.2/km² (8.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 91.38% White, 0.44% Black or African American, 3.55% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 2.96% from two or more races. 1.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 663 households out of which 45.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% are non-families. 17.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.04 and the average family size is 3.44. In the CDP the population is spread out with 34.0% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 3.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 108.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.4 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $55,179, and the median income for a family is $57,857. Males have a median income of $46,417 versus $25,865 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $20,042. 8.5% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line.
