First Ionization Energy

First ionization energy is the energy involved in converting one mole of neutral gaseous atoms to one mole of gaseous ions with a +1 charge at standard temperature and pressure, i.e. 298 kelvins and 1 atmosphere. In more basic terms, the first ionization energy is the amount of energy required to remove a single electron from the outermost energy level of a given atom.
