Financial District (San Francisco)

The Financial District is the name of a neighborhood in New York City and San Francisco. In New York, the Financial District is in the southernmost section of the island of Manhattan which comprises the offices and headquarters of many of the city's major financial institutions, including the New York Stock Exchange. As a district, it encompasses roughly the area south of City Hall Park but excluding Battery Park and Battery Park City. The heart of the Financial District is often considered to be the corner of Wall Street and Broad Street, both of which are contained entirely within the district. In San Francisco, the Financial District is marked by the cluster of high-rise towers that lies between the Union Square shopping district, Chinatown, the South-of-Market District, and the waterfront. The District is home to the city's largest office concentration of banks, savings & loans and other financial institutions, including the western headquarters of the Federal Reserve Bank. Montgomery Street ("Wall Street of the West") is the traditional heart of the district.
