Field Name

Field name can mean a number of different things: *In any field science, field name refers to the common name and contrasts with the scientific name. For example, in geology potassium aluminum silicate is a scientific name, while microcline is the field name for a type of feldspar. In biology hippocampus bargibanti is a scientific name and pygmy seahorse is a field name for a type of fish. Many of the sciences that classify natural phenomena will have scientific, or "laboratory," names and field names.
