Falls County, TexasFalls County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 18,576. Its county seat is Marlin6. Falls is named for waterfalls on the Brazos River. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,004 km² (774 mi²). 1,992 km² (769 mi²) of it is land and 12 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water. Adjacent counties Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 18,576 people, 6,496 households, and 4,410 families residing in the county. The population density is 9/km² (24/mi²). There are 7,658 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 61.50% White, 27.45% Black or African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 8.81% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. 15.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,496 households out of which 30.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.20% are married couples living together, 15.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.10% are non-families. 29.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.15. In the county, the population is spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 20.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 85.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 74.40 males. The median income for a household in the county is $26,589, and the median income for a family is $32,666. Males have a median income of $27,042 versus $20,128 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,311. 22.60% of the population and 18.80% of families are below the poverty line.
