Evelyn Ntoko

Evelyn Ntoko (1922April 30, 2004), born Evelyn Ntoko Mase, was a nurse and the first wife of Nelson Mandela, former South African president (from May 1994–June 1999) and African National Congress leader . They divorced in 1957 after 13 years of marriage (1944–1957). Evelyn Ntoko and Nelson Mandela had three children: a son, Makgatho, and a daughter, Makaziwe, a nurse; their third child, Thembi, was killed in a car accident while Mandela was in prison (from August 1962–February 1990).
