Eve 6

Eve 6 was a punk band from Southern California, whose first album was released in 1998 and which disbanded in 2004. The band formed in 1995 in La Crescenta, California as Eleventeen; the name Eve 6 was only adopted later, after they already had a recording contract and were looking for a replacement drummer. Tony Fagenson, who auditioned while attending the University of Southern California, was an X-Files fan. After seeing the episode "Eve", which featured genetically engineered characters known as "Eves," he got the name from the character called Eve #6 who made a remark about biting a guard's eyeball, which Fagenson thought merited "Eve 6" as a band name.

Style

Eve 6's musical style was relatively limited, with the notable exception of their innovative final album, It's All in Your Head, which featured a wide range of songs. The group was perhaps best known for its lyrics, which feature vivid imagery and inventive wordplay: two of the group's hits, "Inside Out" (from their self-titled album) and "Promise" (from Horrorscope), are good examples of this style. Romance and angst are common themes.

Example Lyrics

Or am I origami
folded up and just pretend
demented as the motives in your head
-Inside Out (Eve 6)
Waiting for the month
of Come-What-May
I smelled you on my shirt today
-Amphetamines (Horrorscope)
There is no floor thirteen
there's not even a second story
you've got one to tell, and it's sad as hell
-Good Lives (It's All in Your Head)

Breakup

Poor sales of It's All In Your Head (192,000 Units Moved) resulted in Eve 6's release from their record contract with RCA. The band subsequently announced its breakup, to occur after a final tour.
