Euler's Rotation Theorem
In
mathematics
,
Euler's rotation theorem
states that any
rotation
has an
axis
. Thus, a rotation may be described using three
degrees of freedom
: two to specify the axis (say,
latitude
and
longitude
) and one to specify the amount of rotation. The theorem is named for
Leonard Euler
.
