Eschersheim

Eschersheim is a district of Frankfurt am Main with about 14,000 inhabitants Eschersheim, first mentioned around 1000 A.D., is in the north of Frankfurt. It sits above the river Nidda and on the opposite bank of Heddernheim. The old part of Eschersheim, "Alt-Eschersheim", is situated between the railroad and the public swimming pool. In about 1900 the rural village without industry became a wealthy residential area and was incorporated into Frankfurt in 1910. In the twenties and thirties Walter Gropius built the new settlement "Am Lindenbaum" and around the water tower in the south. In the fifties more living komplex were built. Eschersheim's landmark is an old lime tree planted in the 17th century.
