Eric Meyer

Eric A. Meyer is the author of several well-known books on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), a part of the HTML standard. According to Meyer "The primary advantage behind CSS is very basic. It leads to smaller files. The technology was developed in 1994 by Hkon Wium Lie (Opera Software), but languished for years because of poor implementation by software companies more interested in pursuing competitive browser wars than in interoperability. Meyer has been an influential champion of the technology, and an educator in its use. His books helped create market demand for better CSS standards conformance. Partly as a result of his work, as advocate and as consultant to Netscape, between 2000 and 2004 browsers gradually came into better conformance with CSS. As of 2004, CSS is an important and widely used web technology. Meyer has been a web designer since the 1990s. He remains active as the List Chaperone of CSS Discuss. Some of his pioneering Cascading Style Sheets concepts can be viewed at css/edge. Mr. Meyer is a former employee of Netscape Communications Corporation, Case Western Reserve University, and The OPAL Group. He is currently a consultant for, and founder of, Complex Spiral Consulting as well as a founding member of the Global Multimedia Protocols Group.
