Erconwald
Erconwald
(died c.
693
) was a
bishop
of
London
in the
Anglo-Saxon
Christian
Church. Little is known of his family, except that it was regal. Erconwald gave up his share of family money to establish two religious houses: the
convent
of
Barking
and the
monastery
of
Chertsey
in
661
. He placed his sister,
Saint Ethelburga
at the head of the convent, while he served as
abbot
of Chertsey. In
675
, he became the bishop of London, after Wini. He was buried in
St. Paul's Cathedral
in 693. His feast day is
April 30
.
