Ephrata, WashingtonEphrata is a city located in Grant County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,808. It is the county seat of Grant County. History Ephrata was officially incorporated on June 21, 1909. Geography is located at 47°19'1" North, 119°32'53" West (47.316971, -119.548059). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.8 km² (10.0 mi²). 25.8 km² (10.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,808 people, 2,561 households, and 1,774 families residing in the city. The population density is 263.6/km² (683.0/mi²). There are 2,788 housing units at an average density of 108.0/km² (279.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.64% White, 0.40% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 5.32% from other races, and 2.10% from two or more races. 10.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,561 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.09. In the city the population is spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $35,060, and the median income for a family is $43,500. Males have a median income of $38,571 versus $26,320 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,929. 12.9% of the population and 8.7% of families are below the poverty line.
