Enterprise Generation Language

EGL is also an abbreviation for Elegant Gothic Lolita. Enterprise Generation Language, or EGL, is a 4th generation language initially developed in the 1980s. IBM created EGL to help procedural programmers, particularly those with RPG and COBOL experience, learn the concepts and practices of object-oriented programming more easily. EGL is perhaps best known as a feature within IBM's WebSphere Studio Enterprise Developer, the mainframe-oriented toolset based on the Eclipse open source workbench.
