Empire Shelter

Empire Shelter was a ship originally laid down as the Castle-class corvette HMS ''Barnard Castle'' of the Royal Navy (pennant number K694), but converted to a convoy rescue ship before completion. She was launched at Browns shipyard in Kincaid on 5 October 1944, brought into service in 1945 and scrapped in July 1955 at Burght in Belgium. She was owned by the Ministry of War Transport and operated by Ellerman City Line. Barnard Castle overlooks a small town of the same name in County Durham, Northern Ireland.
