Ellery Hanley

Ellery Hanley, is a Rugby League player and coach. Born in Leeds in 1961, Hanley started his career in 1981 with Bradford before his transfer to Wigan in 1985 for a then World record 85,000. He became a regular member and also captain of the Great Britain side, and the inspiration behind Wigan's domination of the sport in the late 1980's. He joined Leeds in 1991 and had two spells with Australian club Balmain and one year with Western Suburbs. He also coached Great Britain, becoming the first black person to coach or manage a major national team in Great Britain. He later coached St Helens . When the World League of American football was started it was reported that Ellery Hanley would play for the London Monarchs but this never materialised. Hanley, Ellery Hanley, Ellery
