Elk River (British Columbia)The Elk River is a 119-mile river, originating in the Rocky Mountains of eastern British Columbia, Canada. It flows through the Elk Valley in a southwesterly direction, joining the Kootenay River (here the Lake Koocanusa reservoir) just north of the British Columbia-Montana border. The Elk is part of the Columbia Basin, and runs through the communities of Elkford, Sparwood, Hosmer, Fernie, and Elko. Major tributaries are the Fording River, Michel Creek, Coal Creek, Lizard Creek and the Wigwam River.
