El Pas

El Pas ("The country") is one of the most widely read Spanish newspapers. It first appeared on 4 May 1976, when Spain was still in its transition towards democracy. It's part of the media conglomerate Grupo Prisa. In 1989, El Pas initiated several projects of collaboration with other newspapers in Europe. It participates in a joint network of informative resources with La Repubblica (Italy) and Le Monde (France). Since October 2001 a supplement in English of El Pas is included in the Spanish version of the International Herald Tribune. Its ideology has usually been aligned with the Socialist Party, though there have been clashes. Critics include it in alleged conspirations held by the Prisa manager Jess de Polanco.
