Ehrgeiz (German for "ambition") is a fighting game developed by Dream Factory and released by Namco as a coin-operated arcade game and by Squaresoft as a PlayStation console game in 1998. Ehrgeiz differs from most 3-D fighting games by drawing heavily from the concepts of wrestling videogames, which allow free 360-degree movement and do not require fighters to be facing each other at all times. This restricts the camera to a more or less fixed position, zooming in and out with the action, but not tracking around the arena as would be common in most other 2-D and 3-D fighting games. Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of the game is the inclusion of characters from Final Fantasy VII. Cloud Strife, Tifa, Sephiroth, Yuffie, Vincent and Zack are playable fighters, although most must be unlocked by various means. A very sought after game by Final Fantasy game collectors, due to it not making the "Greatest Hits" list and not being re-released. Also starring in the game is Ken Mishima A.K.A. Godhand.

Additional Information

Ehrgeiz is also the name of Zell Dincht's most powerful weapon in Final Fantasy VIII.

Ehrgeiz was scored by Takayuki Nakamura, and features arranged music by Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for the Final Fantasy video game series.
