Edward Jenner Institute For Vaccine Research

The Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Research is an independent research institute named for Edward Jenner, the inventor of vaccine. It is co-located with the Institute for Animal Health on a campus in the English village of Compton.

History

The institute was founded in 1995 as a charity and not-for-profit company, as a result of an earlier conclusion by the Central Research and Development Committee of the National Health Service that there was a need to carry out basic research in immunology and other fields, which could lead to the creation of effective novel vaccines for human diseases. After occupying temporary laboratory space at the Institute for Animal Health from 1996, the Institute moved to the newly completed laboratory building in 1998.
