Edmund T. Pratt School Of EngineeringThe Edmund T. Pratt School of Engineering is one of two undergraduate schools at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. The other is the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences. It is also one of seven graduate and professional schools at Duke. Pratt awards degrees in biomedical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering and materials science, and engineering management. Pratt included the following as of the Fall 2003 semester: - 84 tenure-track individuals and 81 researchers

- more than 30 staff
A plan has recently been approved to increase Pratt's incoming freshman class size by 50 students, starting with the class entering in 2005. The current freshman class is made up of 261 students. Kristina M. Johnson became dean of Pratt in 1999, and is the first woman to hold the position. History The precursor to the school of engineering dates back to 1851, when Duke was known as Normal College and located in Randolph County, North Carolina. Engineering courses were limited to such fields as architecture and surveying until 1924, when Trinity College was renamed to Duke University. The Duke University School of Engineering was renamed the Edmund T. Pratt, Jr. School of Engineering in 1999, in honor of Edmund T. Pratt, Jr, a 1947 graduate of the school and former CEO of Pfizer.
