Eden Foundation, Sweden

Eden Foundation is an NGO founded in Sweden in the 1980s that has been pioneering desertification control through a low-tech and natural solution. The foundation believes that in arid lands, one should cultivate naturally drought tolerant plants rather than irrigated plants, in order to preserve the scarce water supply and build a sustainable environment. They also believe that such drought tolerant plants hold a promising potential for food production. The foundation started its work in the Tanout region of Niger, which lies on the border of the Sahara desert, where it has done research on different plant species, and has been helping farmers establish trees and bushes through their methods.
