EcossaiseThe ecossaise is a variety of contredance in Scotch style, especially popular in France and England at the end of the 18th century and in the beginning of the 19th. The ecossaise was usually danced in 2/4 time. The musical form was also used by some composers. Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frdric Chopin all wrote a number of ecossaises for the piano, all recognized by their liveliness.
