It was first mentioned in the last book in the Dark Empire series of comic books. The Eclipse II was destroyed along with the superweapon Galaxy Gun at Byss, which was destroyed when the last projectile hit the planet, after R2-D2 override and took control of the Eclipse II's computer banks and set a collision course from the planet Onderon to the Galaxy Gun.
