East Pikeland Township, Pennsylvania

East Pikeland Township is a township located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 6,551.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 23.1 km² (8.9 mi²). 22.8 km² (8.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.23% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,551 people, 2,530 households, and 1,834 families residing in the township. The population density is 287.8/km² (745.1/mi²). There are 2,604 housing units at an average density of 114.4/km² (296.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.26% White, 1.36% African American, 0.08% Native American, 1.72% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.40% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,530 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.07. In the township the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.8 males. The median income for a household in the township is $72,850, and the median income for a family is $86,343. Males have a median income of $53,017 versus $40,500 for females. The per capita income for the township is $31,774. 1.8% of the population and 0.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.0% of those under the age of 18 and 1.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
