East Kirkby

Sitting on the A153 south of Horncastle, Lincolnshire, East Kirkby was an RAF base (code name ' Silksheen') during the Second World War, and the majority of the field is now abandoned, although there are allegedly ghosts associated with the strip, including a man dressed in air crew clothing seen walking along the far side of the strip, and footsteps heard descending the stairs in the derelict Control Tower. One corner is now the home of Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, which features one of the only twenty three known intact (only 3 are servicable, and only one can fly) Lancaster bombers in the world, serial number NX611, although the cost of obtaining an air worthiness certificate (currently around 2,000,000) is currently beyond the owners resources. Still, the Lancaster is regularly taxied out and stood with the four Rolls Royce Merlin XXIV engines running, much to the thrall of the adoring crowds that gather. The village itself is scattered along the main road, and features a restored windmill tower, and St Nicholas Church (Church of England (Anglican)).
