East Falmouth, Massachusetts

East Falmouth is a census-designated place and village located in the town of Falmouth in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 6,615.

Geography

East Falmouth is located at 41°33'54" North, 70°32'60" West (41.565096, -70.549984). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 16.3 km² (6.3 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.38% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,615 people, 2,828 households, and 1,923 families residing in the village. The population density is 468.6/km² (1,214.8/mi²). There are 4,323 housing units at an average density of 306.3/km² (793.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 92.20% White, 2.92% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.68% from other races, and 2.19% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,828 households out of which 24.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.79. In the village the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.3 males. The median income for a household in the village is $42,788, and the median income for a family is $48,302. Males have a median income of $36,884 versus $26,875 for females. The per capita income for the village is $24,041. 8.0% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
