The title of
Earl of Derwentwater
was created in the
Peerage
of
England
in
1688
. It was forfeit in
1716
due to the treason of the 3rd Earl, who was beheaded due to his role in the
Jacobite Rising
of
1715
. The Earls bore the subsidiary titles of
Viscount Radclyffe and Langley
(
1688
) and
Baron Tyndale
(
1688
), both of which became forfeit along with the earldom.
