Earl Of ClarendonThe title Earl of Clarendon was created in 1776 for Thomas Villiers. Previously, in 1661, the title was created for Edward Hyde, but it became extinct at the death of the fourth Earl, there being no male heirs remaining. It was again bestowed upon Thomas Villiers, the husband of the last Earl's granddaughter, in 1776. Lord Clarendon's only subsidiary title is Baron Hyde, of Hindon in the County of Wiltshire, created in 1756. The title is used as a courtesy title for Lord Clarendon's eldest son, who is styled Lord Hyde.
