Dummerston is a town located in Windham County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,915.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 79.8 km² (30.8 mi²). 79.2 km² (30.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.71% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 1,915 people, 796 households, and 543 families residing in the town. The population density is 24.2/km² (62.6/mi²). There are 893 housing units at an average density of 11.3/km² (29.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.33% White, 0.05% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 796 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.89. In the town the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 31.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $46,121, and the median income for a family is $53,375. Males have a median income of $35,664 versus $26,174 for females. The per capita income for the town is $23,742. 2.4% of the population and 1.1% of families are below the poverty line.
