The Duck Pond Lawn, and the corresponding Duck Pond, is arguably the social centre of the University of Wollongong. It is surrounded on one side by various eateries and the Unibar, and the other by lush green gardens that typify the university, making it the ideal place to enjoy lunch on a fine day. The Duck Pond Lawn is the prime location for both music and politics to be heard. It frequently plays host to student bands, and political figureheads, including the former Australian Labor Party leader Simon Crean. The Duck Pond is a picturesque and well maintained body of water, providing a suitable backdrop for the lawn. On the Duck Pond Lawn, the ducks reign supreme, wandering amongst the students as they eat.
