Duchess Of Inverness

The title of Duchess of Inverness was created in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on 10 April 1840 for Lady Cecilia Underwood, ne Gore, who had married the Duke of Sussex on 2 May 1831 in a ceremony not valid under the Royal Marriages Act. Sussex already held the title of Earl of Inverness. The title was created for her life only, and became extinct upon her death on 1 August 1873.
