1840
for
Lady Cecilia Underwood
,
ne
Gore, who had married the
Duke of Sussex
on
2 May
1831
in a ceremony not valid under the
Royal Marriages Act
. Sussex already held the title of
Earl of Inverness
. The title was created for her life only, and became extinct upon her death on
1 August
1873
.
