Dual Characteristics Of GodThe dual characteristics of God in Unification Church theology refer to God's masculinity and femininity and to God's internal character and external form. According to Unification interpretation of the Bible, the verse in Genesis 1:27 furnishes a clue as to God's character: - "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (KJV)
Unificationists interpret this verse as indicating that masculinity as well as femininity are attributes of God. This contrasts with most traditional views of God, as expressed by Jewish, Christian and Muslim teachings, which emphasize God's masculinity. For example, in the Lord's Prayer Jesus taught his disciples to address God as "Our Father"; indeed, modern Christians typically address God as "Heavenly Father", a practice generally followed by Unificationists.
